Product Description
Each item that has the Kicker name must pass a rigorous test. We first verify that all the raw parts of the speaker driver are the proper material, thickness, and weight. This includes voice coils, rubber surrounds, and the speaker cone. Once each speaker driver is assembled, we test to make sure all the parts work together correctly. This is done by listening and by using a strobe light to see that the speaker moves without rubbing or buzzing. Speaker polarity is also checked at this point. Polarity is measured with an automated machine (literally checks to make sure speaker pushes out when it is supposed to, and pull back in when it is supposed to.)
Next, we verify that the electronic amplifier inside the headphone/speaker is producing a clean audio signal. We test with an Audio Precision machine to verify the amplifier can produced rated power output at less than 1% THD (Total Harmonic Distortion; lower % the better). We also test the Signal to Noise Ratio SNR of the amplifier.
Next, we place the final assembled speaker in a special sound test chamber to sweep all the acoustic properties. The frequency response is compared to a golden curve that we design for each product. The machine can do a full sweep in under a second, and give a PASS/FAIL score.
Production is finished with another Kicker certified sound specialist doing a listening test again. This sound specialist will listen for any popping, hissing, humming, clicking, or unusual sounds, and air leaks in the final product which can sound like a whistle. All Kicker products must go through this and this ensures that your ears receive the Signature Kicker Sound.
