Factory and aftermarket car stereos simply don't supply enough power to run subwoofers, and this is where car amps come into play. A car amplifier connects directly to your car's battery to supply ample power so your subwoofers can produce low end bass. Car amplifiers for subs are available as 1-channel (mono) to power one subwoofer, or 2-channel to power two subwoofers. High end car speakers such as component speakers will also benefit from the extra power a car amp supplies. Door speakers are generally powered by a 4-channel amp, which can power four speakers.
